How to Get Rare Butterflies in Build Your Butterfly Garden
Rare butterflies are the key to maximizing Nectar income in Build Your Butterfly Garden. Higher rarity specimens produce significantly more Nectar when placed on Flowerbeds, making rarity hunting one of the most important mid-game activities.
Understanding Butterfly Rarity
Every butterfly in Build Your Butterfly Garden belongs to a rarity tier that determines its Nectar multiplier. Common butterflies provide baseline income while rare, epic, and legendary-tier specimens can multiply your earnings several times over.
Our community-maintained tier list ranks known butterflies by their Nectar contribution. Note that this is not an official developer tier list but reflects community testing and observation.
Using Luck Boosts Effectively
The PixieShop code provides a 3x Luck boost for 15 minutes. Activate this boost immediately before hatching your most valuable Eggs. Prepare by queuing special Eggs in your inventory so you can hatch as many as possible within the 15-minute window.
Do not waste Luck Boosts on common starter Eggs. Save them for Japanese Eggs, Fairy Eggs, Rainbow Eggs, and other event-exclusive Egg types that have higher base rarity pools.
Event and Special Eggs
Special Eggs offer access to exclusive butterfly pools. The Japanese Egg from PLAZAUPDATE, the Fairy Egg from the Fairy Update, and the Rainbow Egg from Fairy Update Part II each contain unique butterflies not found in standard Eggs.
See our Eggs guide for a complete breakdown of every Egg type and its potential hatches. Event Eggs are often time-limited, so hatch them during active events when possible.
Weather Mutation Strategy
Rainy and Eclipse weather events can mutate Eggs before hatching, producing larger butterflies with potentially higher Nectar values. Monitor weather cycles and save your best Eggs for weather windows.
The Size Update increased weather frequency, giving more opportunities for mutations. Our weather guide explains the full mechanic in detail.
